We all know that NovaLogic .bms map files come in a variety of flavors, DF1, DF2, LW, TFD, BHD, JO, and now DFX.
Don’t laugh, but this has happened to me. A friend sent me all of his as well as copies of my old maps via E-mail and, you guessed it, all game-formats (.bms files) were in that single folder! Can you spell “C-H-A-O-S?”
Now, how do you separate these .bms files into their respective game-types?
I remembered an old DF2 program put together by FwO Raven, “DF2 Mission Manager.” This program displays a folder’s .bms files in a spreadsheet format, the last column of that data is “Terrain Type.” This told me what game the .bms file belonged to and with a little doing I turned a soup-sandwich into several organized folders with the appropriate .bms files in each.
Even “EXP” .bms files were distinguishable because their file titles usually start with an exclamation mark (!).
Hope this tidbit of information is useful to Servers and Mapmakers.
